Industrial Transition

Working together for a more sustainable and competitive Europe

For the first time in its history, the European Parliament has in the present legislature an intergroup dedicated to the themes of industry and the competitiveness of the economy, of which I have the honor of being co-chair. European industry is going through a particularly challenging moment, not only because of the contingencies created by the COVID-19 pandemic, but mainly because of the decisive role that it will be called upon to play in the green and digital transitions. Europe owes many of its civilizational achievements to its industry and it is my belief that only by working together and in dialogue, can we find solutions that will allow us to achieve very ambitious goals, such as carbon neutrality and strengthening our competitiveness and sovereignty. Policy makers and key actors, including small and medium-sized enterprises, must cooperate to eliminate bureaucracies and other barriers, and in ensuring adequate investment in research and innovation as a fundamental pillar of this transformation process.
