I supported this resolution as it frames the priorities we need for an appropriate strategy on health in light of the Covid crisis. Health must be embedded in all policies, horizontally. To implement this principle, the Union must agree on a strong MFF that includes dedicated funds for health infrastructures. Research and innovation must always be nurtured and promoted, especially when it comes to medical treatments, vaccines, but also rare and neglected diseases. International partnerships could have a real benefit to improve access to cares, enhance affordability of medical treatments and promote better cooperation and coordination in front of the biggest challenges, such as the antimicrobial resistance or cancer. The European industry must be backed by strong plans to address the shortage of medicines that is a real problem in the decades to come. This aspect is part of the bigger objective of reaching a stronger resilience for our supply chains and in particular for those related to key strategic sectors, such as health. Research and clinical data will be more and more important, especially against the background of an increased use of digital technologies. A European Data Space cannot wait anymore. The resolution represents a balanced but urgent call to action for the European Commission.
