Maria da Graça Carvalho signed the petition “Call on the UAE to take concrete steps against sex-trafficking”, in support of women, who have been victimized and trafficked from Eastern Partnership countries to the Middle East. The petition, based on the findings of the report entitled “Trafficking from the Fringes of Europe to the Middle East”, calls on EU member states and the European Parliament to address the issues raised by the report and take steps to disrupt human trafficking for the purposes of sexual exploitation and, specifically, from Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova) to the Middle East, and particularly the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

As part of International UN Watch “She is not for sale” campaign, a similar petition submitted in March to the British House of Commons received the support of just under 60 MPs.
