Chaired by Maria da Graça Carvalho, and with the keynote intervention of Jean-David Malo, EIC Task Force Director of DG Research and Innovation (European Commission), the K4I Forum Governing Board Working Breakfast informed on developments regarding “Innovative Europe” under Horizon Europe.

To deliver on its aim of ensuring prosperity to citizens while meeting the challenges of the future, the EU must be capable to stimulate market-creating breakthroughs and ecosystems conducive to innovation. Hence, the next EU Research & Innovation Investment Programme will be accompanied by a structure able to foster all forms of innovation and strengthen market deployment.

The third pillar of Horizon Europe (2021-2027) aims to deliver on this goal and will be articulated in three structures:

  • European Innovation Council (EIC will identify and support breakthrough ideas and market-creating innovations;
  • European innovation ecosystems facilitate connecting with regional and national innovation actors and harvest new avenues for European collaborations;
  • European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) through Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) brings key actors together (research, education and enterprises) towards innovation.
