Explanations of Vote | 18-06-2020

AI requires a holistic approach providing a common, long-term position that highlights the EU’s key values and objectives he use of artificial intelligence entails significant ethical and fundamental rights challenges such as, but not limited to, the protection of personal data and the right to privacy, as well as significant technological developments and the deployment of innovative solutions. The European Parliament wants to be able to respond with full capacities to the challenges deriving from the digital age. Following a decision by all political groups, this new special committee will be a further forum for the MEPs to discuss, exchange views, cooperate in order to issue advices, opinions and recommendations. The ITRE committee, and the other relevant ones, will continue to be the core of the legislative process around the subjects in the scope of the new committee. I support this decision and it would be an honour to become one of its members, in order to bring my expertise and knowledge at the service of the collective thinking.
