Portuguese MEP Maria da Graça Carvalho defended, on Monday, that the biomass sector “was going through an exciting phase before the present crisis of COVID-19, and will continue to go through it in the future”, underlining the importance of its contributions for European growth and the achievement of goals such as the European Green Deal.

In a video message, shared at the inaugural session of the 28th European Biomass Conference & Exhibition (EUBCE 2020), which takes place online, under the patronage of French President Emmanuel Macron, the MEP considered that the role of biomass “has increased substantially thanks to innovation and technology”. As an example, among others, she mentioned the opening, in The Netherlands, of “the first European facility entirely dedicated to sustainable fuel production for aviation”.

Maria da Graça Carvalho was host of the previous edition of the EUBCE, held in Lisbon, in 2019. An event attended by more than 500 delegates, from 70 different countries, which resulted in hundreds of reports and projects.
