MEP Maria da Graça Carvalho defended that the Commission should adopt “binding regulation” regarding the use of unique chargers for mobile phones and other electronic devices, Vida Económica reports. “The biggest question of the common charger is very important, not only for the consumers’ practical lives, who see themselves forced to buy a set of chargers to each electronic device, but also for environmental questions,” said MEP Carvalho. Following a Commissioner Sefcovic declaration on this matter, MEP Carvalho reminded that the European Parliament asked the Commission to elaborate specific rules on this issue. The decision to “motivate manufacturers produce a single model” had no satisfactory results, MEP Carvalho says.
