Causes Youth Unemployment

Youth [2009-2014] | 30-11-2012

On 30 January 2012, during the informal summit of the European Council, the European Commission set up eight "Action Teams" to be sent to European countries with high rates of youth unemployment and announced the use of 82 billion euros of funds not yet spent to support measures to combat youth unemployment, boost growth and support SMEs.

On 23 May Commission President Barroso presented the first results of the "action teams". Since then there is not any update on the work done by the "action teams".

In addition, youth organizations do not seem to have been at all consulted, involved or informed, even if this was provided for by the European Commission in its Communication "Youth Opportunities Initiative" and called for by Parliament in its resolution of May 24, 2012 "Youth Opportunities Initiative".

For this reason, Maria da Graça Carvalho co-signed the written question to the European Comission on Information on  measures to tackle youth unemployment.
