Work in Parliament Simplification Report - Public Hearing

On September 1, the European People's Party (EPP) held a European Parliament hearing on Maria da Graca Carvalho's eport on: "Simplifying the Rules for Participation of current and future European Programmes for Science and Innovation."

There were a large number of participants and featured three panels, one on the point of view of universities, the second on research centers and the third oIndustry including SMEs.   The last speech was devoted to the views of the European Commission.

The  welcome speech and the findings were presented by Maria da Graca Carvalho. The moderators of panels were MEPs Rübig, Jean-Pierre Audy and Angelika Niebler. Other speakers of note were: Richard Templer, Professor and Director of Climate in the area of Imperial College; Jerzy Langer, Professor - Foreign Secretary of the Academia Europaea, Pam Fredman, Gothenburg University Rector and President of the Conference of Rectors Swedes; Xavier Inglebert , Director of Resources of the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), Ingrid Reynaert, Director of Academic and Governmental Relations of the Interuniversity Micro-Electronic Center (IMEC), Christopher Hull, Secretary General - European Association of Research and Technology Organisations (EARTO) ; Liuhe Petri, Director, Nokia Research Center - Nokia, Jürgen Leohold, Director of Volkswagen Group Research, Peter and Monica, Director of Legal Services and Financial YDreams and MEP Ingeborg Gräßle. On behalf of the European Commission was present Robert-Jan Smits, Director General of DG Research.

A group of 29 special invitations included members of governing bodies for Higher Education, Vice Chancellors and Professors, and University and business representatives in the field of Science and Innovation.
