Work in Parliament Adoption of the Supplementary Research Programme for the ITER project

Committees BUGD [2009-2014] | 26-03-2013

Today in the quality of EPP shadow rapporteur for the EIT, Maria da Graça Carvalho voted on the opinion to the ITRE committee on the future EU funding for ITER for the period 2014-2018 through the setting up of a Supplementary  Research Programme under the Euratom Treaty.

The Rapporteur, Mr Torvalds (ALDE), presented in it the position taken by the Parliament in its interim report on MFF 2014-2020 in October 2012 and proposed to support the Commission's proposal of putting ITER over and above the ceilings of the MFF and ring-fenced to a maximum amount so as to ensure adequate funding for this project while at the same time protecting other EU programmes, mainly in the research field, from possible redeployments in favour of ITER, as it happened in the past.
