As mentioned in the report in question, the European Union is founded on a common set of values enshrined in Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union (TEU), which include the respect for the rule of law. The member-state in question is aware of the fact that it needs to adopt measures to assure that it will again completely abide by these common values. However, Poland has failed to act on this matter, despite a recommendation by the Commission, issued on 20 December 2017, already supplementing three previous recommendations.
