Work in Parliament Hearing on the future of European Research

Today, Maria da Graça Carvalho participated in the hearing devoted to the Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development, which took place in the European Parliament.

The Hearing was opened by the President of the European Parliament, Jerzy Buzek MEP, and chaired by Herbert Reul MEP, Chairman of the Industry, Research and Energy Committee of the European Parliament.

Maria da Graça Carvalho as rapporteur for simplifying the implementation of the Research Framework Programme, moderated the panel on the Follow-up to simplifying the implementation of the rules with regard to the funding of research and innovation programmes.

During her intervention Ms Carvalho spoke about her report - which was adopted with a significant majority on November 2010 - which marked "the beginning of a difficult road ahead. Now we have to make sure that our recommendations are properly implemented. A fair degree of progress has already been made".  

MEPs, together with academics, industry and research and development experts answered the question: what future for research in Europe?

On the agenda were:

Panel 1 - Interim evaluation of the 7th Framework Programme (FP7) moderated by Jean-Pierre Audy MEP, Rapporteur for the interim evaluation of the FP7;

Panel 2 - Follow-up on simplifying the implementation of Framework Programmes moderated by Maria da Graça Carvalho MEP, Rapporteur for simplifying the implementation of the Research FP;

Panel 3 - The 8th Framework Programme moderated by Christian Ehler MEP, EPP Group Rapporteur for the Green Paper: Towards a common strategic framework for EU research and innovation funding.
